This review is for the membership, not for the resort. Although, the resort isn't what it used to be either.

We bought a membership almost 20 years ago, back when it was just starting. So many things have changed over the years, and not for the better. They oversell the membership in the sales meetings and promise things that are never delivered, like new resorts coming up. They also have sales tactics that are sketchy at best.

They neglect to tell you certain important information and make it seem like you can sell some of your weeks to recoup costs, but that is a farce. One of the biggest problems is that they neglect to tell you that you'll spend thousands, even tens of thousands on the membership, but have to pay more for "presidential" rooms to actually get the benefits you think you've already paid for. So if you spent $30,000 to be an Emerald member, they neglect to tell you that in order to get your Emerald benefits you have to book an "Emerald Presidential" room. Those are hard to book as there aren't very many of them.

So if you don't book an Emerald presidential, you won't get your emerald benefits. They also fail to mention that the same exact room without benefits is much cheaper, so essentially to get your benefits, you pay for the membership, but then also pay a higher rate for the room with benefits. I've priced out the benefits and if you paid for the cheaper room and just paid for the benefits individually, its cheaper than booking a presidential. So you do pay for your benefits twice, once when you buy in and then each time you book a presidential room.

It is a total ripoff. The people who say its worth it get payoffs and free vacations. Don't let them tell you they don't. The only people who say its worth it, are people who travel multiple times a year (like once a month) and have money burning holes in their pockets.

If money is no object for you, then by all means, go ahead and buy a membership. If you care about your money and not getting ripped off, RUN as far away from this membership as you can.

They also have changed their terms in their contracts. It no longer guarantees you "at least 50% off" rack rates, now it says "up to 50% off" which is a HUGE difference. Oh and "rack rates" are a made up fictional number that NOONE actually pays.

They are inflated rates to make it seem like you're getting a good deal. They fail to tell you that in the sales meetings as well. You can get just as good a deal from a travel agent or even online (like Expedia). You can also get a week from a member in many of the Facebook groups.

Many members would like to get out, but Exotic realized that and added a "transfer fee" that is an exorbitant amount, so members can't sell their memberships anymore. Oh, they also added a clause to their contracts that says you can't talk bad about them online or they can cancel your membership. They can also change the terms whenever they want.

(see photos) Save yourself the trouble and don't buy in. There are many other issues with the membership, including the recent split from Prestige that had cut the number of resorts available to stay at, in half; no website to book on or check rates for over two months (almost three), but I could go on for days.

If you're considering buying a membership, my advice is Don't.

Richard Santos or others look for emails for all account holders!!! They know your email. They know your Exoctic membership ID!! They try to get you to pay off your membership via wire transfer from your bank to theirs, Dont believe them or do it!!! They are very convincing and know all about the resort and accommodations. They use the logos and say they are a third party just with the membership side they are NOT These are frauds!!!

We purchased a 30 year membership at the third to highest level. Once they got our money, it has been all downhill!!!

We cannot get help, we have 2 tickets waiting for Flyback refund, it has been 2 years for one of the 2 rebates.. we have never seen a cent! We have been unable to access and use the travel share program with them, that is supposed to allow 2 weeks at participating resorts anywhere in the world! WRONG!

No one can assist us with or get the program going. We were told we can bring friends & family under our membership, and they were supposed to enjoy our Membership privileges while there.. WRONG!!! We have arranged a Whole family vacation this coming December, and they refused to book my parents, my brothers, sister-in-laws, or nieces & nephews.

They didnt qualify . Its crap! The only true benefit of this 35K membership is we get 5 bottles of alcohol in our room per trip. Big deal, alcohol is included in your resort reservation price, and you will get up charged for any premium liquor.

We are going to see how we can dump this program, and get (At least) some money back for a refunded membership.

DO NOT JOIN THEIR RESORT MEMBERSHIP! I am disabled, and cannot work. This cost (That was presented to us as a program we could transfer to our children, as we paid off the remaining membership coasts within one year of purchase) has been a financial mistake on our part. Dont let them pressure you while they are power feeding you alcohol, have high pressure sales staff, and you are looking out at paradise around you.

It is a scam! Do Not Do this, learn from me!

When we joined, there were close to 20 resorts available to book with, now we only have access to half of them.

We paid for access to 20, and we have a contract to access all of them, but it's impossible to book the other half of the properties. No notice. No customer service. No explanation.

No 50% refund for taking away half of the properties.

Don't go anywhere near these companies. You will be promised the moon, and they will deliver a trash dump.

We should see about a Class ction Lawsuit! Exotic Travel has scammed us all!!

We have bee members for 21 yrs, uprgraded right before the pandemic, & have lost $7,500.00 Flyback in a nightmare. They find all these hoops to jump thru before they'll send any money! We are waiting for a payment for a trip taken last July!!

I don't have a great feeling about money ever coming. The whole Exotic company doess nothing but LIE!!!

My husband and I joined Exotic Travelers & Prestige Travelers also part of the Karisma and Lomas owners. This company does not honor their memberships, return calls/emails. We have brought friends and the last year was horrible. The sales people and membership lie to you, they pass the buck, never honor what they say. I would never buy a membership from Exotic Travelers. However, now that Exotic and Prestige have split, I would highly recommend Prestige Travelers. They are honoring the entire contract even if you last upgrade was at Exotic Travelers. Exotic is the worst company to buy a membership from as you will never be able to resolve customer service/membership issues.

We joined exotic travelers in 2017 and in 2019 they suggested we try staying at The Fives, a sister resort run by Prestige Travelers. At the Fives we were upgraded to include the resorts in Prestige. Fast forward to 2023 and we can no longer book at any exotic resorts. They claim we are only members of Presige. So our entire membership that we paid for is now no longer honored. Prestige has taken wonderful care of us, but it is not the club that we paid to join.

I have been an EXOTIC TRAVELERS member since 2012. This time, for the first time in more than 10 years, I have not received any good answer to my current problem. My ID card shows that I am an EXOTIC PRESIDENTIAL member and the back of the card shows the Exotic Travelers contact information. As they recently changed their phone number, I called to the new one and they told me that I was not registered. I wrote an email to Member Services and their answer was: "This email is intended for our valued Exotic Members only. As your membership falls under the Prestige membership, we kindly ask you to reach out to your dedicated travel club for any assistance." When I call to Prestige, their answer is that I am not a member either. So... is this a game? I am truly upset about it because I can not login in their website either. Booked through secret escapes as we have for many years. Absolutely no problems. Booked again and they said it's though exotica... checked and exotica had cancleed the booking ... so they had to re book ... itinerary has come through with an internal flight, which is great and should be there, but the following day the same internal flight ... have tried to use the call back (25 times) no one calls back ... disappointed... will never use exotica again and will ensure when booking though secret escapes it's not one of there's

Horrible support and website

Website has been down for weeks as under maintenance. Unable to login with credentials given and cannot reset password and password reset email never arrives.

Tried contacting sales person, James, and no responses at all. Every customer support number tried either has automated message or no answer. When you do get to a live person you are put on hold and call disconnects.

Cannot transfer any time/weeks to the other exchanges due to issues above. I DO NOT recommene buying into the sales pitch and time share with this company.

Exact same issue here - number emails to member services, forms filled out, phone calls to various numbers and everyone just keeps passing the buck. It's been going on for 6 months now and I'm getting very angry!

We have had the same experience. Phone call disconnect every time.

Password reset link in a loop with no actual reset link. No answers to our over 40 emails. Just automated responses offering no help.

Feels like we have been taken. The hotel.eas very nice when there but this is awful.

I agree, I have been a member since 2018, Have been unable to access my accoun. Have been i nformed that they have been purchased, but am unable to contact anyone with information about this and how it affects my membership.

I have beengiven numerous phone numbers, but when I called, I either spoke with someone that transferred me and then that transfer rang and rang and then disconnected.

I love this resort. I am very dissappointed in what is, or is not going on with this resort.

They have split with prestige travelers club, so they did a new website and it came online a couple weeks ago, we traveled earlier this month without being able to reach anyone and we were nervous . But everything worked out

Company split leads to no services

The new website is up, it has no phone numbers. Many of the resorts are no longer available.

You can no longer find a hotel based on member level and you cannot search dates by calendar. Tried calling and they just leave you on hold for hours.

This went from an enjoyable vacation company to a complete scam. They have your money and have made it impossible to use it so you just lose it.

Unfulfilled Membership Promises

Went on a friend's membership in September 2023 and loved it. Beautiful and clean, sat in on a dales pitch and bought a membership based on promised of what the membership included. Have yet to get access to a useful, working members website to see resorts, rooms, rates. Get the run around & lies from everyone I contact, yet they still take my payment and refuse to cancel or refund my membership since it is absolutely useless. Total SCAM...run dont walk as far away from Exotic Travelers as possible!!

Their website has been down for months and there is no one to contact. Normally when phoning for assistance, there is an option for technical support but their message options do not have that choice. We have stayed at El Dorado Royale several times but our last visit, after Covid was disappointing. The quality of the resort including the restaurants had markedly deteriorated. I believe this company is in financial trouble and if they cannot sell their memberships - have you heard of Ponzi. Similar to the Flyback program - do not involve yourself because you will not get paid. They obfuscate and delay and try and find any miniscule detail in your submission they can use to avoid payment. Save your money and go elsewhere.
